Shortcuts? What the hell are those?

Unless I'm mistaken, it's now 2010. As far back as I can possibly remember, both Windows and Mac OS have had the ability to create shortcuts (so, what, almost 30 years now?). So how the fuck is it possible people STILL call me because they deleted a shortcut on their desktop and don't know what to do? This is grounds for revoking someone's computer permanently.
